Aromatherapy

“I think a fragrance is all about sensations and imagery, and can evoke visions, feelings and thoughts.”

Shakira

Aromatherapy uses natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, twigs, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to help to improve physical and psychological well-being.

How it works

Hippocrates

If you smell an aroma from an “essential” oil it is believed to stimulate the brain function. Aromatherapy essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream and they can help to promote whole-body healing.

They can be used in a massage oil, inhaled in steam or burnt in incense or candles and even put in a bath or in a hot or cold compress to help relieve pain, enhance a mood and increased cognitive function.

Most oils are very strong and can be toxic and must be mixed with a carrier oil. It is advisable to use a blended aromatherapy oil unless you are experienced in aromatherapy.

Many oils are used in our day to day products for example in soaps, detergents, perfumes, sweets, toothpaste, etc.

There are many essential oils available each with its own considered healing properties. I can blend oils to suit your needs or use suggested pre-blended oils. The oils I tend to use are Neal’s Yard and Absolute Aromas.
