Massage Therapy
Massage therapy can be dated back to 2700 BC in China. In ancient Greece, Hippocrates referred to it as the ‘father of medicine’ in the West and he makes references to ‘rubbing for loosening and softening of muscles’.
Swedish massage was developed by Dr. Ling in Sweden in the nineteenth century based on techniques used in Swedish gymnastics.
Swedish massage uses the following techniques: effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement and vibration to provide a wonderful massage to reduce both physical and emotional stress in the body.
Sometimes if you get a nettle sting and you rub a dock leaf on it, it helps to stop it stinging. This is due to the oil in the dock leaf combined with the action of rubbing the sting on the skin.
